in the Pollution in People Study

Blood, urine, and hair samples were collected from ten Washington residents during September and October of 2005.
Four professional laboratories then conducted chemical analysis on the samples to determine levels of a panel of chemicals.
| Sample Type | Chemical Analysis Performed | Laboratory |
|---|---|---|
Blood | PFCs PBDEs organochlorine pesticides PCBs lead | AXYS Analytical Services, Victoria, BC; and Pacific Toxicology Labs, Los Angeles, CA |
Urine | arsenic organophosphate and carbamate pesticides phthalates | Pacific Toxicology Labs, Los Angeles, CA; and National Medical Services, Willow Grove, PA; and AXYS Analytical Services, Victoria, BC |
Hair | mercury | Brooks Rand, Seattle, WA |

Details about sample collection and chemical analysis can be found in the Materials & Methods section of the report.
Information for individuals who want to be tested for chemicals in their bodies.
Some chemical levels were measured directly. For other chemicals, such as phthalates and pesticides, the analysis was for metabolites (breakdown products) of the parent chemical. A summary table listing the metabolites analyzed can be found in Appendix 2 of the report.
